Remove WGA Notification – Windows Genuine Advantage Notification on Windows XP
If you have a windows XP and connected to internet with automatic update enabled. I believe that you’ll get this messege on your login screen. You’ll be notified to check your windows copy online with microsoft server. This won’t be a problem or bothering if you have an original windows copy, but if you don’t have one, let me tell you how to remove the WGA notification so you don’t have to be wait 10 sec to login into your windows desktop.
1. Click Start Button and click Run
2. Type “regedit” and press enter
3. The Registry Editor windows will appears, then browse to this key:
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
4. Find “Wga Logon” and delete it. Then search any other key with “Wga Logon” words and delete them (if any).
5. Restart your computer.
6. WGA won’t be appear, but you still need to remove it completely. Make sure that your folder option to show hidden and protected Windows files. And go to Windows\System32\dllcache, find and delete “WgaTray.exe“. Try to find it too in Windows\System32.
7. Search and delete all files that start with “Wga” (i.e: wgatray.exe, wgalogon.dll, wgasetup, etc)
8. Restart your windows, and you’re done
